Case Catalogue
Users may select standardized patient scenarios from the Standardized Patient Program’s (SPP) various case catalogues. Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) users may contact us to receive a copy of the catalogue or may review in person in the Centre for Simulation-Based Learning (CSBL). Trainers are available to work with requesters to select an appropriate case to reach the learning objectives of the session. If a specific demographic is required, a scenario with a differing demographic should be selected as a backup option.
The SPP case catalogue is not to be shared or distributed to any students (from any faculty) or to any individuals outside of FHS.
The SPP will provide equipment and/or supplies that listed in the catalogue case, such as a wheelchair, walker, pregnancy apron, etc. for simulations within the CSBL. If the SP is simulating outside of the CSBL, arrangements can be made for the equipment to be picked up from the CSBL by the requester.
Custom Cases
A custom case is a scenario that has been created by the user in the instance that existing catalogue cases are not suitable. Custom case scenarios must be submitted using the case writing template, to ensure all necessary information is provided. When a custom case is submitted, a trainer will review the request and case to determine the appropriateness for SP use and clarify any details, as required. Trainers are also available to work with the user to develop the scenario. The SPP reserves the right to decline any request for custom scenarios.
Training is required for all custom cases. The requesting program is responsible for covering the costs and fees of training associated with custom case requests.
Note: To be more inclusive of all individuals, and for ease of securing an SP, it is highly recommended that all demographics (e.g., age, gender, ethnicity) be removed when not necessary in achieving learning objectives.
