We are located on the first floor of McMaster University Medical Centre (MUMC), which is the same building as McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) or McMaster Health Sciences Centre (HSC).

The building floor plan is color coded. Our 1M location is in the blue section (opposite from the anatomy education program), and 1G location is in the red section.

Our centre supports simulation-based learning for all healthcare programs from the Faculty of Health Sciences. Curriculum assistants, simulation leads or their administrative assistants typically submit booking requests to the Centre for Simulation-Based Learning (CSBL). Students can book CSBL rooms for practice use as well, however, these practice sessions are booked only during the CSBL business hours unless there is tutor presence.

Sessions outside of above activities can be accommodated if there is availability. Please contact us for more information.

The majority of curriculum-based bookings are managed through the Centre for Simulation-Based Learning Annual Booking process.

An email is sent out to all programs in mid- to late-February every year, requesting booking submissions for the new academic year (July 1 to the following year June 30) before the deadline (usually end of March). Submissions received during this time period will be given equal consideration for room availability.

The Centre for Simulation-Based annual booking team (room booking assistant, program manager and representatives from the simulation and standardized patient programs) will then review all booking requests and assign rooms accordingly. For any booking conflicts, we will reach out to affected programs for resolutions, which usually requires moving dates around.

Once all requests have been booked, we will send out room booking confirmation in early May for the first half of the new academic year (July – December) and early June for the second half (January – June).

The remainder of bookings can be submitted using our online booking portal throughout the year. Priority is given to Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) programs’ curriculum activities, followed by extra-curricular activities. External bookings are considered only after all FHS programs’ needs are met.

The Centre for Simulation-Based is open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., evening bookings are only available after being pre-approved and confirmed.

Weekend sessions are occasionally booked for special events.

Food is not allowed in the Centre for Simulation-Based teaching space. Drinks are allowed as long as they are in non-spillable containers.

Nothing can be removed from the clinical teaching room.

Please report any missing items to the front desk staff.

You may rearrange the furniture in the room to suit the needs of your session, however, you must return the room to its original condition. There is a photo on the back of each door showing the original room configuration.

Generally speaking, Centre for Simulation-Based (CSBL)  space and resources (other than standardized patients) can be booked with no cost for Faculty of Health Sciences programs’ curriculum activities. There is a small cost for undergraduate medical student interest group activities. For postgraduate resident programs, there is a charge based on the type of the session to offset some of the cost.

For all other user groups, there will be a cost for using CSBL resources. Please contact us for details.

Standardized patients are always booked at a cost. Please refer to costs and payments for more information.

To book standardized patients (SP), please complete the SP Booking Form.

We encourage learners to share their feedback about their learning experience.

A QR code is posted at both the 1G and 1M entrance and in each teaching room. Please scan the code and complete the CSBL Learner Feedback Form after your session.
