University Closures

The following information applies only to the McMaster University Hamilton site. The regional campuses have varying practices on storm closures. Waterloo regional campus will directly contact any standardized patients (SPs) whose bookings are cancelled. Niagara cancellations are determined by the individual school (i.e., Brock University).

All bookings, on- and off-campus, are automatically cancelled when the university campuses are closed due to weather.

It is the SPs responsibility to check the university’s open/close status. Closures are communicated via Daily News, social media (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter) and by Hamilton media (radio and television). Although every effort is made to confirm a closure by 5:30 a.m., if weather conditions change throughout the day, the university may close at any point.

If there is no specific announcement about McMaster being closed, then the university remains open.

If the university does not close in inclement weather, SPs are responsible for determining if weather conditions may make their travel to attend a booking and return home unsafe. Should an SP decide not to attend a booking due to weather, they must notify the SPP as soon as possible, via phone and email.

If SP bookings are cancelled due to any other circumstance beyond our control, the Standardized Patient Program will contact you by phone and email as soon as possible.
