Hours of Bookings
Standardized patients (SPs) may be requested for daytime, evening, weekday and weekend sessions. Minimum hours will apply to trainings and simulations.
If a session runs longer than scheduled, SPs are not expected to stay beyond the original end time but may do so at their discretion. If an SP works longer than scheduled, they must notify the Standardized Patient Program (SPP), who will confirm with the tutor via email. The user will be billed for the additional time.
Breaks & Meal Breaks
In accordance with Employment Standards Act (ESA), any booking of five consecutive hours will have a 30-minute unpaid meal break. This break may be split into two 15-minute paid breaks. A schedule must be provided to the SPP with the booking request.
Late Arrivals/Absences
Late arrivals and absences are taken seriously, as they can have a negative impact on learners.
For on-campus bookings, SPs are required to check-in at the Centre for Simulation-Based Learning (CSBL) prior to the start of their booking. If an SP does not arrive for their booking, and did not provide enough notice to find a replacement, the requestor will be informed immediately.
For after-hours or off-campus bookings, SPs are expected to arrive at the predetermined location, ready to simulate, for the booking start time. The SPP will provide the SP with any emergency contact information provided by the requestor.
